The main objective of the qualitative component of this study was to explore factors behind the observed decline in HIV prevalence among pregnant women in Lilongwe but not observed in Blantyre, and to establish factors and behavioral patterns that fuel the pandemic in urban areas of Lilongwe and Blantyre so as to inform the national response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
